Stranraer Castle Ghost Hunt
Castle of St. John, Stranraer, DG9 7RT
Saturday 21st November 2026 7:00PM
A Good Old-Fashioned Ghost Hunt… at Stranraer Castle
Presented by Mostly Ghostly, in partnership with Stranraer Castle
The Ghost Hunt is Afoot!
For the very first time, Mostly Ghostly invites you to join us as we investigate the Castle of St John, Stranraer, exploring reports of unexplained activity within one of the town's oldest and most imposing buildings.
Over the years, castle guides and others familiar with the building have shared a collection of strange accounts. Reports include disembodied voices, mysterious footsteps heard on the upper levels, and the distinct sensation of an unseen presence.
From the troubled days of the Covenanter persecutions to its later years as the town prison, the castle has witnessed darker chapters of Stranraer's past. Its former cells, winding stairways and secluded chambers provide a fascinating setting for an evening of paranormal exploration.
As the castle falls still, what might we discover within its ancient stone walls?
Over the course of the evening, guests will take part in a series of small-group sessions using traditional ghost-hunting techniques, including dowsing rods, pendulums, mirror work, trigger objects and basic audio recording. Each session will draw on researched historical context and local accounts, encouraging observation, interpretation and shared discussion.
You'll also:
Mostly Ghostly, creators of award-winning ghost and local history events across Dumfries and Galloway since 2008, and experienced paranormal investigators with a passion for uncovering Scotland's hidden histories and unexplained tales.
A good old-fashioned ghost hunt, in every sense.
