Closeburn Castle: The Ghost Hunt Before Christmas
The Ghost Hunt is Afoot!
An immersive paranormal investigation in one of Dumfriesshire's oldest and most evocative strongholds...
Mostly Ghostly returns to Closeburn Castle for a special seasonal edition of A Good Old-Fashioned Ghost Hunt.
Explore this ancient stronghold by night, taking part in small-group investigations using traditional ghost-hunting methods. This December, we'll also introduce old Scottish winter beliefs surrounding protection and the watching of the dead, bringing something of these customs into selected sessions and a candlelit closing vigil.
The ancestral seat of Clan Kirkpatrick, Closeburn Castle is one of the oldest continuously inhabited tower houses in Scotland. It's a place we know and love, with years of research and a long-standing partnership dating back to 2018.
Over time, a number of compelling stories have arisen: sightings of a woman in black, reports of a shadowy canine presence, and tales of a mysterious death omen — each one woven into the castle’s rich tapestry of folklore.
Throughout the evening, guests will use dowsing rods, pendulums, mirror work, trigger objects and basic audio recording as they investigate the castle's atmospheric rooms. There will be opportunities to ask questions, observe and discuss what they encounter.
We'll explore the dungeon, tower stair, attic room and reception area. Weather permitting, we'll also spend time outdoors near the loch and through the surrounding woodland, and consider the historic iron yett — a powerful liminal feature and symbol of transition.
There will be breaks for refreshments and time to compare impressions. With limited places available, this is an exciting opportunity to experience Closeburn Castle during the long winter nights.
Mostly Ghostly are multi-award-winning storytellers and creators of ghost and local history events across Dumfries and Galloway since 2008. Experienced paranormal researchers and investigators, they have a passion for uncovering Scotland's hidden histories and unexplained tales.
A good old-fashioned ghost hunt - with a distinct winter chill...
