FINLAND : the happiest country that almost didn't exist

Moffat Theatre, Moffat, DG10 9AP
Saturday 3rd October 2026
The people of Finland regularly come at the top of polls as among the happiest folk on the planet.  And this is despite the aggression of their neighbour, Russia, with whom they share a long land border.  Finland excels in education, its child poverty level is 3.7% (Scotland's is 22%).  As Lesley Riddoch says - " Its way of life is more equal, digital, cooperative, and relaxed than almost anywhere else on earth".  So what can Scotland, with a similar population, learn from Finland?

FINLAND: the happiest country that almost didn't exist has been put together by Scottish broadcaster Lesley Riddoch and Inverness born  filmmaker, Gavin Hanigan.  Lesley will be at the theatre after the film showing for a Q and A session.
