Stitching Across Borders

MLAB, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, Brighton, BN1 1EE
Thursday 29th October 2026 6:00PM
What stories of queer people of colour and migration do we carry with us? What possibilities emerge when we bring them together through textile-making?

Join us to create a collective textile artwork exploring themes of queer people of colour and migration, led by textile artist Siqing Zhan, as we will reflect on the fluidity of our experiences and identities.

Using the QHS Archive, we’ll gather insights into the world of textiles and how this has helped to provocate, challenge and celebrate previous political projects. Then, we’ll get crafting our own creations! These will contribute towards a final textile that will then be on display at our upcoming exhibitions in March 2027, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK.

These sessions are open to individuals with authentic, ongoing connections to queer people of colour and/or migration communities. They’re also free to participate! Expect an empathetic, welcoming and friendly environment to inspire your creativity. All levels of experience are welcome and materials provided. Come to one or join us for all!

Find out more about the project, led by textile artist, Siqing Zhan in our latest blog post. Click here to read it today!
