BHASVIC Hall, Main Building, Hove, BN3 6EG
Tuesday 12th January 2027
Literature Uncovered: Eight-Week Adult Evening Course, BHASVIC, Brighton (beginning Tues Jan 12th. 7.15-8.30pm)
Join us for a creative, light-touch examination of all things literary!
A former senior editor of The Times Literary Supplement for over 30 years - Adrian Tahourdin is delighted to present this limited-places evening course in Brighton. Drawing on his experience, the course will explore various themes - as well as unique insights to the world of literary publications.
This course will be made up of weekly sessions on genres such as literary classics, censored literature, foreign fiction in translation, 20th Century Modernism (Joyce and Woolf), autobiography, as well as the art of book reviewing for literary publications.
The format will be friendly, discursive, and will not require any prior knowledge, beyond a love of books! We will set some suggested reading each week, although this will not be mandatory. There will be PowerPoint presentations to help us along, mixed with discussions and an exchange of ideas and opinions to expand our literary knowledge.
About me:
A relatively recent Brighton resident, I worked as an editor at the Times Literary Supplement for over 30 years and am delighted to be able to share some of what I learnt and read in that role during this class. My more recent focus as an editor was on foreign (mainly European) literature, fiction and history, but I worked in a wide variety of subject areas covered by the paper, from Anthropology to Zoology! I continue to read widely and with curiosity and delight. I still work as a freelancer, contributing to reviews for the TLS and the Literary Review. The tone of this class will be relaxed, interesting, and a space to learn a little, but mainly to enjoy immersion in the world of books! I hope you will join me.
