Films at The Libraries - The Christophers (Cert 15) - St Thomas Library

Julian Sklar (Ian McKellen) was once a star of London's 1960's and 70's pop art explosion, but he hasn't painted in decades and has been broke for years. His two estranged children (James Corden and Jessica Gunning), desperate for an inheritance, hire Lori (Coel), an art restorer and former forger, to pose as a prospective assistant in order to access eight unfinished canvases Julian has buried deep in storage. The plan is to complete them, then return them to storage, where they are to be "discovered" upon Julian's death.

“Terrifically exhilarating and funny, as bracing as a large vodka and tonic before lunch: fast, literate and funny with a key plot progression elliptically and unsentimentally managed.” The Guardian

“Another solidly gripping film from the ever-prolific Soderbergh, this is a terrific two-hander, with Coel and McKellen on fine, fierce form.” Empire
“A deliciously sly, twisty, darkly comedic take on the art world starring Ian McKellen who has never been better on film.” The Spectator
