A Sail Through the Sonnets
Presented by Left Handed Productions
Set sail on a unique theatrical journey through one of poetry’s most enduring forms.
A Sail Through the Sonnets brings together a carefully curated collection of classic and contemporary sonnets—touching, funny, thought-provoking and uplifting—performed by a talented company of readers, with beautiful live musical accompaniment throughout.
But this is more than simply a performance of poetry.
Between the sonnets, you’ll discover the fascinating stories behind them: the poets who wrote them, the moments that inspired them, and the history, humour and humanity that connect works written centuries apart. From Shakespeare to modern voices, each piece becomes part of a larger voyage, revealing how fourteen lines can capture the full breadth of the human experience.
With live music woven seamlessly throughout the performance, words and melody combine to create an atmospheric and immersive theatrical experience that celebrates the beauty, power and timeless relevance of the sonnet.
Whether you’re a lifelong lover of poetry or completely new to sonnets, this welcoming and entertaining performance offers fresh insight, beautiful language and a few surprises along the way.
Join us for A Sail Through the Sonnets—an unforgettable performance of sonnets, old and new, and the stories behind them
We look forward to welcoming you aboard.
