Noticing Autumn: A Mindful Haiku Walk
Join Olivia Sprinkel for a haiku walk through Laughton Greenwood, using this Japanese poetry form as a way to slow down, pay attention and connect more deeply with the natural world.
As we walk through the woodland, we’ll pause to notice what is around us, using our senses to observe the small details and changing moments of early autumn. We’ll explore how haiku can help us capture these experiences in just a few words, and try our hand at writing our own.
There will be a short introduction to haiku and prompts to guide you along the way. The focus is on curiosity, reflection and observation rather than producing polished pieces of writing, and no previous experience of haiku or creative writing is needed.
You’ll come away with a simple practice that you can take into your own walks and use to deepen your connection with the seasons and place you live.
Please bring appropriate footwear and clothing for the weather. Ground surfaces are likely to be uneven and may be muddy.
Olivia Sprinkel is a nature writer and nature connection guide. She is the author of the narrative non-fiction book ‘To Hear the Trees Speak’ and her poetry has been published in numerous anthologies.
