Craft Sessions: Make Your Own Mosaic Tile

L'Arche Craft Shop, West Norwood, SE27 9JU
Thursday 18th June 2026
Join us for a relaxed and friendly evening when you will learn the art of mosaic making to create your own small decorative tile or functional coaster to take home at the end of the evening.    During the evening you will discover:

  • An introduction to mosaic making
  • Basic health and safety when creating mosaics
  • Demonstration of techniques and styles to create your own mosaic tile
  • An explanation on grouting your tile
There will be hands on support available through the session to help you learn how to cut and shape ceramic and glass tiles to make your perfect piece.  We will also demonstrate and explain how to grout your piece; as we might not have time to do this in the session, we will provide the materials and resources for you to be able to do this at home.

Who is it for?
18+, the class is beginner friendly. All materials will be provided.

What you need to consider:
  • This is a taster session therefore it is suitable for people with no experience in mosaics.
  • All materials and tools will be provided.
  • A good level of dexterity is needed to use tools safely when making your mosaic tile.
  • The mosaics made in this workshop will be for indoor use only and should avoid getting wet. They may be cleaned with gentle damp cloth if need be.
  • Please dress appropriately for a potentially messy activity.
  • We will not have time to grout our mosaics during this session as it can take some time for the glue to settle.  We will do a demonstration and you will be provided with the materials and resources to grout your mosaic on the night so you can complete this at home once the glue has set on your design.  Or we can arrange to grout it for you and for you to collect it at a later date.
About L'Arche
Our Community includes over 30 people with learning disabilities, who we support at home and in our workshops. Alongside them are our faithful community members, volunteers, friends, and neighbours, all of whom play an integral role in fostering a warm and inclusive atmosphere. Additionally, our team of dedicated L’Arche assistants adds further support and care to our core members.

We also have a wide-ranging programme of day activities, which is open to people with disabilities living in or outside L’Arche. We work with individuals to develop daily living skills, we make space for creativity and fun and we are passionate about helping people to reach their goals.

The hubs for our activities programme is our two amazing workshops. Our large community garden workshop is where we support people to harvest and grow fruit, vegetables and flowers. We sell some of our produce locally and share the rest between our Community houses and friends. In our craft workshop, people make and sell beautiful products, such as handmade cards, candles, embroideries and much more. Our talented drama group creates its productions, scripts, costumes and props from scratch and performs in local churches and theatres.
