Django Chutney & Mike Hatchard!
Mike Hatchard and Django Chutney combine forces for another spectacular night of Gypsy Jazz!
Mike Hatchard is one of the best jazz pianists in the south of the UK. Always a delight to listen to, he is able to switch to playing in any style instantly, adapt to and work with any melody, adapt to any mood, play with sensitivity and feeling, or sparkling flowing energy.
No wonder he is constantly working with top flight jazz professionals and impressing audiences wherever he plays, creating memorable, magic music nights.
Django Chutney is a virtuosic gypsy-jazz band with equal parts due respect for the genre, unruly chaotic energy, and a huge dose of tongue-in-cheek humour.
Combining tightly woven three part vocal harmonies reminiscent of 30s and 40s American vocal groups the Mills Brothers and the Ink Spots; ridiculous guitar show-offery that draws as much from Django Reinhardt as it does from Guthrie Govan; double bass solos that drag Pops Foster's slap technique kicking and screaming into the 21st century; and a repertoire that’s seemingly firmly rooted in the 30s Hot Club era, but will suddenly transport you through decades and styles, from New Orleans jazz to Chicago blues and Parisian musette, effortlessly, respectfully, but most importantly, with true joie de vivre!
