GEOFFREY ROBERTSON - World of War Crimes: Eyeless in Gaza… and Beyond

Park Marquee - Northwood House, Cowes, PO31 8AZ
Sunday 11th October 2026 12:00PM
Every day we are exposed to evidence of thousands of war crimes. The evidence proves guilt beyond reasonable doubt, but few, if any, prosecutions. Distinguished human rights lawyer Geoffrey Robertson exposes the ‘fraud’ that is international humanitarian law: poleaxed by the veto of the world’s most powerful aggressors and ill-equipped to deal with the methods of modern warfare. He draws on his experience as a UN war crimes judge to consider some of the most pressing legal issues of our time, including torture, nuclear weapons, drone warfare and the fallacy of ‘anticipatory self-defence’. Most importantly, Geoffrey suggests comprehensive  reforms to international humanitarian and criminal law, offering a blueprint for global justice that looks to a future beyond the barbarity of modern warfare. The time has come for a new coalition, independent of the UN and the US, to devise a new order of war crimes. Join him for a discussion of his new book, World of War Crimes.
