Dir Avelina Prat | Spain, Portugal | 2025 | 114 mins | Rated 12A | Spanish, Portuguese, Serbian
Devastated by the sudden disappearance of his Serbian wife, Fernando, a disoriented geography lecturer from Barcelona, finds himself adrift. Seeking escape from his shattered life, he assumes the identity of another man and takes work as a gardener at a country estate in northern Portugal, where he strikes up an unlikely friendship with the property's owner. As he settles into this borrowed existence, Fernando is forced to confront the very grief and guilt he fled, caught between necessity and deception. A quiet, lyrical meditation on loss, identity, exile, and the possibility of reinvention.

REVIEWS
"Like the home that gives the film its title, 'The Portuguese House' has an elegant, lived-in atmosphere." ★★★★ Kevin Wight, The Wee Review
"Escapes the modish social realism to embrace a captivating lyricism of everyday life..." Javier Ocaña, El Pais
"The performances are quiet and highly effective: Manolo Solo, as a man who loses his wife’s love for no reason he can understand, and Maria de Medeiros, as the independent and mildly mysterious farm owner, play beautifully off each other."
Felipe Rosa, Fifth about The Seventh
"Avelina Prat crafts a delicate fable with subtle performances and a humanist touch that lingers long after the credits roll." Dionar Hidalgo, Algo Más Que Cine
