Dir Kent Jones | USA | 2025 | 96 mins | Rated 15 | English
Ed is a blue collar New York postal worker who was once a published poet but never achieved recognition. When an eager young poet named Meyers shows up believing Ed’s forgotten 1970s collection deserved acclaim, he draws Ed into an emerging literary salon, including the alluring actress Gloria. As the group anoints him their rediscovered genius, Ed splits his evenings between the salon's feverish gatherings and his old routine of drinks with postal colleagues, torn between two versions of himself. Intoxicated by the group's adulation, Ed must reckon with the authenticity of his newfound community. Adapted from Arthur Schnitzler's 1895 novella.
Starring Willem Dafoe, Greta Lee
AWARDS AND FESTIVALS
Venice Film Festival: Nominee, Best Film
REVIEWS
"Saxberger is portrayed with a loose, warm-leather ease by Willem Dafoe... It’s a performance so natural it barely looks like acting at all." ★★★★ Xan Brooks, The Guardian
"Lee’s performance may be the secret key to Late Fame. Gloria is a user, a poseur extraordinaire; her fluttery flamboyance, rooted in insecurity, summons another Gloria, the one from Sunset Blvd."
Stephanie Zacharek, TIME Magazine
"There’s wisdom and depth to the film’s themes of growing old, dashed dreams and the magic of rediscovery, plus a deliciously ironic final twist." Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times
"In a sense, the film is like a wonderful little poem" Kyle Smith, Wall Street Journal
AGE RATING
LATE FAME is rated 15. Under 15s will not be admitted. For more information, please see the film’s page on the BBFC website.
