Candide by Voltaire
Hall Green Little Theatre (Studio), Birmingham, B27 7RY
Monday 12th October 2026 - Saturday 17th October 2026
Adapted by Richard Woodward.
Performed by our Senior Youth Theatre Group.
This production is recommended for 12+, as it includes infrequent coarse language and sexual references.
Voltaire's blistering 18th Century satire on the philosophy of optimism, reworked as a black comedy. Candide is taught to believe that 'all is for the best, in the best of all possible worlds' (no matter what happens), but his experiences frequently suggest that the opposite is the case. He lives through shipwrecks, earthquakes and war (and more), but is nevertheless relentlessly positive.
