The Puritans are gone. The theatres have reopened. For the first time in English history, a woman is about to step onto the public stage. Two women battle for a role that will change theatre forever, while the men who control the stage, the money and the rules decide what price they must pay for fame.
Adapted and expanded from its acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe one-act version and inspired by extraordinary true events, The Actress shines a light on the remarkable women who changed British theatre forever.
Before there was Nell Gwyn. Before Sarah Bernhardt. Before Judi Dench…
