GMOC Opera Takeover – Sunday 22 November 2026
Stalybridge Victoria Market Hall | Ages 11–18 | FREE
Greater Manchester Opera Collective is back for another completely free day of opera-making, culminating in a public evening performance!
Following our summer Stardust project, participants will work on opera scenes, ensembles and opera classics, as well as performing a concert version of Evelyn Sharpe’s Stardust.
You’ll work alongside professional opera singers Soraya Mafi (www.sorayamafi.com) and Elgan Llŷr Thomas(www.elganthomastenor.com), the regular GMOC team, and two postgraduate opera singers from the Royal Northern College of Music, who are partnering with us for this project.
Provisional timetable:
10:45am – Arrival
11:00am – Workshop begins
1:00–1:45pm – Lunch
1:45–5:00pm – Rehearsals
5:00–5:30pm – Dinner
6:00pm – Prepare for performance
6:30–8:00pm – Public performance
Please bring a packed lunch, dinner and drinks, and wear comfortable black clothing suitable for rehearsing and performing. We are unlikely to use costumes for this project.
Solo opportunities -
If you would like to be considered for a solo or featured role, please indicate this on the booking form. We’ll try to accommodate as many participants as possible, but cannot guarantee everyone a solo. Those allocated solos will also need to attend a music rehearsal in Stockport on Sunday 15 November, late afternoon (time TBC). We would particularly love our original Stardust soloists to return!
Parents/guardians must complete the booking form so that GMOC has current emergency contact, medical and consent information.
Places are limited, so please only book if you intend to attend. We completely understand that plans can change, but if you can no longer come, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your place to somebody on the waiting list.
Registration closes Sunday 25 October.
The 6:30pm evening performance is free and open to the general public. There will be an optional collection for GMOC to help begin fundraising for our next major summer project.

We can’t wait to welcome you!
