Plastic Tree Guard Clean-up Volunteer Day
Streat and Westmeston Cricket Club, Hassocks, BN6 8RL
Friday 11th September 2026 10:00AM
Join Friends of the South Downs members for this volunteer task-force day collecting plastic tree guards!
Who hasn’t come across redundant tree guards littering the ground whilst out for a walk? Well, now is your chance to put it right.
Trustee David Taylor has organised the first Tree Guard Cleanup Day of the year and he needs up to 10 volunteers to help.
The date to put in your diary is Friday 11 September and the location is Middleton Manor Estate at Wesmeston near Lewes. Half a day is all it would take and your help would be much appreciated.
The start time will be 1000 and finish around 3pm. Please bring lunch and liquid refreshment. Car parking available. No dogs.
Location:
Streat and Westmeston Cricket Club
Middleton Manor, Lewes Rd, Westmeston, Hassocks BN6 8RL
What3words: ///abruptly.supplier.mend
Please note this volunteer day requires the use of secateurs to cut cable ties allowing tree guards to be removed from young trees, the tree guards will need to be placed in bulk bags which once full will require lifting/dragging (two people) to a storage location for subsequent collection. Volunteers will need to be flexible enough to bend down and work at ground level. Protective gloves (gardening type are fine) should be taken and worn. Sturdy footwear required. Not really suited for people with restricted mobility. Not much walking required, just gardening fitness level.
