Macbeth
Ferndale Theatre, Ashtead, KT21 1ET

What happens to ambition in an age of constant connection? What becomes of truth when it is filtered through screens, feeds, and voices we cannot quite see in person but cannot ignore?
This adaptation of Macbeth places Shakespeare’s darkest tragedy within a world that feels strikingly familiar: one shaped by devices, mediated relationships, and the relentless presence of influence. The Weird Sisters are no longer figures on a blasted heath but something more insidious, disembodied, networked, persuasive. They appear through screens, through messages, through the seductive logic of algorithms and echo chambers. Their prophecies do not simply foretell the future; they manipulate perception, nudge behaviour, and amplify desire.
The production also explores the tension between connection and isolation. The stage is full—of images, of sound, of interaction, yet the characters are increasingly alone. Communication is constant, but connection is rare. In a world of immediate response, reflection disappears; action becomes impulsive, reactive, and ultimately destructive.
