The Accidental Bookshop Music Book Club - Girl in a Band
The Accidental Bookshop, Alnwick, NE66 1JG
Tuesday 24th November 2026 6:00PM
This month we're discussing Girl in a Band, the fiercely honest & insightful memoir from KIM GORDON, vocalist, bassist/guitarist and founding member of Sonic Youth.
'So much more than a rock biog, Girl in a Band is a unique record of the past fifty years of alternative culture.' NME
'Unconventional... Not a garden-variety rock memoir... a lovely book about crafting a complicated creative life when none of the molds quite fit' LA Times Book Review
For many, Kim Gordon is the epitome of cool, a founding member of one of the most successful bands to emerge from the post-punk New York scene that would go on to pave the way for acts like Nirvana and inspire the Riot Grrrl generation.
Growing up in New York's downtown art and music scene in the halcyon days of the 80's & 90's, Girl in a Band is an edgy and evocative portrait of a life in art.
This 10 year anniversary edition of the book is updated with a new chapter, in which we find Kim ruminating on her career as a solo artist and her two 2025 Grammy nominations.
Do join us. We'll have drinks and a casual vibe and a glorious 20% off each of our 'music book club' picks for members. Spaces are limited, so grab yourself a free ticket if this sounds like your thing!
And again, this month's book is Girl in a Band - and we'll be chatting about it for an hour on Tuesday 24th November @ 6pm:
