Museum Late: Fashionable Folkestone
Folkestone Museum, Folkestone, CT20 1DY
Wednesday 14th October 2026
Join us at Folkestone Museum for an evening all about Fashionable Folkestone. Folkestone changed hugely during the Victorian period. As soon as the railways arrived in town in 1842, visitors flocked to the town, which became the place to be.
Folkestone expanded rapidly to the west – thanks to the Earl of Radnor, who had the Leas Promenade and new housing created. Hotels sprung up for the wealthy, and Folkestone Harbour changed owner and was revitalised, with its passenger link to France. Folkestone Museum was founded at this time too!Local historian Vince Williams will be giving a talk all about Folkestone's Pleasure Gardens – his new book will be available to buy on the night. Vince will be with us all evening to answer your questions. There’s only 34 tickets for his talk – grab one before they run out!
If you don’t fancy our talk, you can still enjoy the museum with a drink in hand. Get hands-on with some Victorian craft, play some Victorian toys and games, and grapple with the Curator’s quiz!
