'A ROAD TO A VILLAGE'
Folkestone Film Festival presents… An Evening of Nepali Cinema at The Grand
A film from Nepal. An evening for Folkestone.

Join Folkestone Film Festival, Grand Arts CIC and the Folkestone Nepalese Community for a very special evening celebrating cinema, culture and community.

We are delighted to present A Road to a Village, an internationally acclaimed Nepalese feature film from director Nabin Subba, which premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival.

Set in the beautiful mountains of eastern Nepal, the film follows Maila, a traditional basket weaver, his wife Maili and their young son Bindre.

When a new road finally connects their remote village to the outside world, it seems like a dream come true. But with new opportunities come unexpected challenges, and the family soon finds their traditional way of life changing forever.

A moving, beautifully-observed story about family, identity, tradition and the price of progress.

SPECIAL GUEST AND LIVE Q&A
Following the film, we are delighted to welcome acclaimed Nepalese actress Pashupati Rai, who plays Maili in the film, for a live Q&A hosted by Ben Barton, Festival Director of the Folkestone Film Festival.

CELEBRATING FOLKESTONE’S NEPALESE COMMUNITY
This evening is about much more than cinema.

Folkestone has a thriving Nepalese community with a rich cultural heritage and a long-standing connection to our town, particularly through the Gurkha community.

Together, we're bringing people from different backgrounds together to enjoy an extraordinary film, discover more about Nepalese storytelling and celebrate the people and cultures that make Folkestone such an interesting place to live.

Whether you’re a film lover, curious about Nepal and the Gurkha community, or simply looking for a special night out in Folkestone, we welcome you to join us!
