Traces: Conflict-Related Sexual Violence, Solidarity and Justice in Ukraine

LSE Sumeet Valrani Lecture Theatre, Houghton Street, London, WC2A 2AE
Thursday 12th November 2026 6:00PM
Join WPS & LSE Methodology for a special screening of Traces, followed by a conversation with the film’s producer and the survivor advocate at its centre, chaired by Christina Lamb.

Traces, directed by Alisa Kovalenko and co-directed by Marysia Nikitiuk, follows Ukrainian women who survived conflict-related sexual violence and torture by Russian forces and came together to break silence and stigma. At the centre of the film is Iryna Dovhan, a former captive and founder of SEMA Ukraine, a survivor-led organisation, who travels through de-occupied territories of Ukraine documenting survivors’ testimonies.

Winner of the Berlinale Panorama Audience Award – Documentary and selected as Ukraine’s official submission to the International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards, the film moves beyond documenting war crimes to show how individual trauma can become a collective force for truth, justice and mutual support.

The screening will be followed by a conversation with Iryna Dovhan, the central figure in the film, and Olha Bregman, producer of Traces, chaired by Christina Lamb, Chief Foreign Correspondent at The Sunday Times. The discussion will offer a rare opportunity to hear directly from those involved in the film about survivor-led solidarity and the pursuit of justice.

Ukrainian-English interpretation will be provided during the discussion.
