The Smokin’ Ade Wakelin Band
The Edge Arts Centre, Much Wenlock, TF13 6NB
Saturday 15th May 2027
Blues & Grooves, Funk, Soul & Jazz
The Smokin’ Ade Wakelin Band deliver a tight live set packed with mainly original songs and instrumentals of driving Texas and Chicago blues shuffles, Hammond organ grooves, funk, soul and jazz.
They also play some original arrangements of a few great classics, including Ben Tucker’s “I’m Coming Home Baby”, Ray Charles’ “Hard Times” and John Hiatt’s “Feels Like Rain”.
They are a strong, confident four piece band with a deep, irresistible groove. Expressive improvisation and a tight rhythm section create a dynamic sound that keeps audiences engaged from the first note to the last.
A defining element of the band’s live sound is jazz pianist Joe Masterson, whose Hammond organ and piano playing add rich tonal colour and dramatic range. Joe locks into the rhythm section and guitar giving every performance character and dynamic energy.
