The Song of Terezin
Didsbury Baptist Church, Manchester, M20 6SX
Friday 15th May 2026
An evening commemorating the lasting musical legacy of the composers of Terezín.
Terezín, better known by the German name Theresienstadt, was a ghetto and concentration camp which held primarily Jews from Czechoslovakia, as well as those deported from Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Denmark.
The culture in the Theresienstadt ghetto was extraordinarily rich and vital, an expression of spiritual resistance and a means of survival for the thousands of artists, musicians, writers, and scholars imprisoned there.
The music will be enriched with stories and memories shared by Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines.
You can look forward to the following programme:
Hans KrásaTanz for Violin, Viola and Cello (1944)
Bohuslav MartinůSonata for Cello and Piano No. 2 (1941)
Gideon KleinTrio for Violin, Viola and Cello (1944)
