Birdwatching for Beginners:
A Three-Week Introduction to the Birds of Coppet Hill

Ever fancied getting into birdwatching but aren't quite sure where to start?
Join us at Coppet Hill for a relaxed, three-week Beginners' Birdwatching Course, led by local birdwatcher Luke Phillips.

Taking place over three Saturday mornings in January and February, this friendly, practical course is designed for adults who are new to birdwatching or simply want to build their confidence in identifying the birds around them.

Across the three sessions, Luke will introduce you to the wonderful world of birds, helping you learn how to identify different species, recognise bird calls and understand more about their behaviour and habitats.

We'll explore the varied habitats of Coppet Hill, from hedgerows and woodland to open farmland, discovering the birds that live here throughout the winter months.

Across the three sessions you'll learn:
  • How to identify common British birds by sight.
  • How to use binoculars and what to look for when spotting birds.
  • How to recognise different bird calls and songs.
  • Where to find birds in different habitats.
  • More about seasonal visitors, migration and bird behaviour.
  • Tips and confidence to continue birdwatching independently.

Weather Disclaimer
As this is an outdoor course, sessions will go ahead in most weather conditions, so please come prepared for the elements! Wrap up warmly and wear suitable waterproof clothing and sturdy outdoor footwear.
In the event of severe weather or conditions that make it unsafe to go ahead, we reserve the right to postpone a session. We will contact all participants as soon as possible with details of any alternative arrangements.
Please note that a little winter drizzle won't put us off – some of the best birdwatching can happen in unexpected weather!
