CWF26 walk 8 - Lower Wye Valley Pilgrim Walk

Wireworks car park, Tintern, NP16 6TQ
Saturday 24th October 2026 9:30AM
This challenging walk takes in three active churches, one ruined church, one ruined but stunningly beautiful Abbey, Tintern Railway Station (abandoned and then restored as a tourist attraction) and a view from the Devil’s Pulpit, high on Offa’s Dyke.
This pilgrim walk visits Penterry Church, the only building left of a village destroyed by the black death plaque; St Mary’s Church, abandoned after a fire destroyed it in 1977; Tintern Abbey partially demolished during Henry VIII’s Dissolution of the Monasteries; the Devil’s Pulpit which looks down on the Abbey; the Moravian Church at Brockweir, established to save the souls of the notoriously lawless river folk; Tintern Railway Station closed to passengers in 1959, and St Michael’s Church on the banks of the River Wye at Tintern.
The walk guides will give a brief history at each location and a chance to explore.

This walk is not suitable for dogs.

10 miles strenuous due to length and several steep climbs. Allow the whole day. Bring picnic, drinks and a camera.
