BETTY BLUE EYES - Beeston Musical Theatre Group

*EARLY BIRD - ONE POUND DISCOUNT AVAILABLE FROM TUESDAY 27th OCTOBER TO MONDAY 2ND NOVEMBER ON FULL PRICE TICKETS.*

In a Yorkshire town in 1947, victory has yet to deliver the better life Britain was promised. Food is rationed, money is scarce, and a bitter winter has left everyone longing for something to celebrate. The forthcoming wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip offers a welcome lift —but while ordinary families make do, the town’s dignitaries are quietly planning a feast of their own.

At the centre of the confusion are Gilbert, a mild-mannered chiropodist with a passion for his profession, and his ambitious wife Joyce, who is determined to climb the social ladder. Add Joyce’s ever-hungry Mother Dear, the relentless meat inspector Wormold, and a town full of schemers, profiteers and self-important officials, and trouble is never far away. The most unlikely participant is Betty, a pig whose fate becomes entangled with everyone’s appetite for a better life.

Based on the 1984 film A Private Function, starring Michael Palin and Maggie Smith, Betty Blue Eyes turns Alan Bennett and Malcolm Mowbray’s story into a warm, mischievous musical comedy about class, ambition and getting more than your fair share. Adapted for the stage by Ron Cowen and Daniel Lipman and produced by Cameron Mackintosh, it serves up eccentric characters, British humour and one unforgettable pig.
