Llandaff Cathedral, Cardiff, CF5 2EB
Saturday 21st March 2026
Join Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra for an evening of richly evocative orchestral music, led by Michael Bell MBE, in the magnificent setting of Llandaff Cathedral.
The concert opens with Sir Arnold Bax’s Tintagel - a sweeping symphonic portrait inspired by the dramatic Cornish coastline and the legends of King Arthur, evoking sea spray, soaring cliffs, and ancient myth.
Celebrated Cardiff-born violinist Charlie Lovell-Jones is the soloist in Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Violin Concerto, a work of lyrical beauty and emotional intensity, drawing on themes from Korngold’s iconic film scores of Hollywood’s golden age.
The evening concludes with Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, presented in Maurice Ravel’s dazzling orchestration. From the noble Promenade to the triumphant Great Gate of Kyiv, this vivid musical gallery brings a series of imagined artworks thrillingly to life.
A concert of epic landscapes, heartfelt lyricism, and spectacular orchestral colour.
