Mae Pedwarawd Llinynnol NOVO Artistiaid Cenhedlaeth Newydd y BBC yn ymuno â'r faswnydd meistrolgar rhyngwladol Ben Roidl-Ward mewn rhaglen ddiddorol o weithiau'r 20fed a'r 21ain ganrif. Mae Pedwarawd Llinynnol Rhif 1 Ligeti, Métamorphoses Nocturnes, yn agor y rhaglen gyda gwaith o ddychymyg anhygoel, gan droi chwareus a visceral. Mae comisiwn newydd yr Athro Arlene Sierra, A Young Mind in Old Bees ar gyfer basŵn a phedwarawd, yn cael perfformiad cyntaf y byd, archwiliad disglair, rhythmig a mynegiannol o fywyd gwenyn. Mae unawdau baswn diweddar gan Tonia Ko ac Osnat Netzer yn dangos meistrolaeth Roidl-Ward, ac mae'r rhaglen yn cau gyda Phedwarawd Llinynnol Rhif 8 Shostakovich, campwaith hynod deimladwy, sy'n archwilio tristwch, galar, a hiwmor sardonig.
BBC New Generation Artists NOVO String Quartet join international virtuoso bassoonist Ben Roidl-Ward in a fascinating program of 20th and 21st century works. Ligeti’s String Quartet No. 1, Métamorphoses Nocturnes, opens the programme with a work of extraordinary imagination, by turns playful and visceral. Professor Arlene Sierra’s new commission, A Young Mind in Old Bees for bassoon and quartet, receives a world premiere performance, a shimmering, rhythmic, and expressive exploration of the life of bees. Recent bassoon solos by Tonia Ko and Osnat Netzer show the virtuosity of Roidl-Ward, and the programme closes with Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 8, a profoundly moving masterpiece, exploring sorrow, grief, and a sardonic gallows humour.
Ligeti: String Quartet No. 1
Arlene Sierra: A Young Mind in Old Bees** for bassoon and string quartet
Tonia Ko: Tilt for solo bassoon
Osnat Netzer: Monoblogue for solo bassoon
Shostakovich: String Quartet No. 8
