Free School Lane, Halifax, HX1 2XE
Saturday 4th April 2026
Join Halifax Heritage Tours (HHT) on their special guided tour of the Royal Halifax Infirmary (RHI).
Opened by the Duke and Duchess of York (later to become King George V and Queen Mary) on 25th July 1896, the building was paid for by public donations with the names of many benefactors such as Crossley, McCrea, Rawson, Appleyard, Simpson, Kitchenman, Porter and Baldwin still seen on the buildings!
Would you like to see how the site has been developed into houses and apartments since the hospital closed in 2000? The Infirmary has always had a special place in the hearts of the people of Halifax and Calderdale; today’s residents feel the special spirit of place from this heritage and from those who have passed through the beautiful buildings over the last 127 years.
