Monday 2nd November 2026
Forró is a Brazilian music and dance genre rooted in the Northeast of Brazil, bringing people together through infectious rhythms, lively melodies and joyful movement. From traditional styles such as baião and xote to contemporary interpretations, forró has been gaining popularity around the world, connecting people through music, dance and Brazilian culture.

If you are interested in forró, come and discover the rhythms, movements and musical traditions of Brazilian forró!

Join Brazilian flautist, music educator and cultural producer Caio Handel for a practical, hands-on workshop exploring forró, one of Brazil’s most vibrant musical and dance traditions. Whether you already play an instrument, love dancing, or simply want to discover Brazilian music, this workshop offers a welcoming space to learn, experiment and make music together.
Through movement, body percussion, musical instrumentsand group playing, you will explore the popular rhythms of baião, xote and arrastapé, some of the musical styles associated with forró. You’ll explore the foundations of forró in a relaxed, welcoming and participatory environment. No previous musical or dance experience is needed!

What to expect?

The workshop will include four practical sessions:
1. Forró Dance & Basic Movements: Discover the basic steps, movements and feel of forró, with an introduction to moving in time with the music.
2. Rhythm & Body Percussion: Learn rhythmic patterns and grooves through body percussion, exploring the characteristic rhythms of baião and xote.
3. Playing the Rhythms: Put the rhythms into practice using Brazilian percussion and other musical instruments. No instrument is required, but you are welcome to bring one if you have it.
