Winter Dawn - Bach's Light after Darkness
St Paul's Church Winchester, Winchester, SO22 5AB
Sunday 24th January 2027
The Bach Winchester Voices & Orchestra, directed by Andrew Hayman, present three midwinter cantatas about the light that comes after darkness – the Lutheran belief that, even in times of trouble, consolation and joy follow the acceptance of God’s will. This comforting thought is proclaimed in exciting choruses, reiterated by four outstanding soloists in lyrical arias and recitatives ... and come the closing chorales, its brightness (and Bach’s music) will have warmed your heart.
Our programme is completed by a motet about the light of life, and two instrumental interludes by organist and director Andrew Hayman and the Bach Winchester Players.
Programme:
BWV 72: Alles nur nach Gottes Willen (cantata)
BWV 543: Prelude and Fugue in A-minor (organ)
BWV 92: Ich hab in Gottes Herz und Sinn (cantata)
BWV 144: Nimm, was dein ist, und gehe hin (cantata)
BWV 118: O Jesu Christ, meins Lebens Licht (motet)
Bach Winchester Voices & Orchestra

Jessie Edgar, soprano
