'What's in a tune?'
The Hub, Suffolk, NR35 1EN
Saturday 5th September 2026
Host: Sarah Barton
'One of my favourite things about being a folk musician and band member is getting to explore different ways to arrange tunes and bring them to life. In the workshop I'll introduce a tune and use a bit of music theory to delve into its harmonies, rhythms and melodic shape, and think about what makes it a good tune. The aim is to help you hear and interpret tunes in different ways, choose chords, compose harmony lines and so on in your own music-making. I'll provide sheet music and aim the workshop at people who can read quite well as I won't want to spend too long on learning the tune.'
Sarah has chosen Bouree Tiennet as her tune to work on.
Here is the tune..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0vvCResv3g. The tune you are working on kicks in around 50s. Use the cog wheel to change the playback speed to something more sensible. There is another version herehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEsHKXjAsYMBUT the B part is just slightly different to the one Sarah will use.
Sarah plays fiddle and cello in the Norfolk based band Klezmerized that graced the folk picnic at last year’s festival. Her other band Flute, Fiddle and Box will be performing this year.
