Players Please! Part IV! A talk by Keith Fawkes & Richard Norman with Jacquie Toye

The Club for Acts and Actors, London, WC2E 9HP
Tuesday 21st July 2026 7:00PM
Continuing the story of the Players' Theatre — a legendary British institution — this presentation explores one of its most successful collaborations: its long-running partnership with the BBC TV series The Good Old Days. Keith will also be in conversation with Jacquie Toye — actress, singer and dancer — who performed with both the Players' and The Good Old Days, offering a personal perspective on this cherished chapter in British entertainment history.
Spearheaded by producer Barney Colehan, The Good Old Days ran for thirty years from 1953 to 1983, drawing both minor and major artistes from across the British Isles and the Continent in a much-loved tribute to the traditions of music hall and variety. The Players' company became an integral part of the series, with their celebrated scenas forming a highlight of each evening's show, while many of the company's individual artistes also appeared in solo and duet acts.
The connection ran deeper still: Leonard Sachs, chairman at Leeds City Varieties — the home of The Good Old Days — had also been an early director of the original Players' Theatre Club, embodying the close ties between the two institutions. Using archive footage, stills and film clips, this presentation brings the collaboration vividly to life.

This will be a full evening with an interval, starting at 7pm and ending circa 9.30pm.
