Listing your event on free platforms beyond your own social media is one of the most effective things you can do to reach people who have never heard of you. These platforms are free, take minutes to set up, and collectively put your event in front of millions of people actively looking for things to do.
According to TicketSource's 2025 User Survey, 78.7% of event organisers use free social media to promote their events. That is a good start — but your own social media reach is limited to people who already follow you. Event listing platforms put your event in front of people who are actively searching for something to do, often in a specific location, on a specific date, in a specific genre. That is a fundamentally different and complementary kind of reach.
Here are the best free event listing platforms for UK and US theatre, music, arts, community, heritage, and pop-up events — along with exactly what each one is best for.
Creating your event on TicketSource is the natural starting point. Your event page is your promotional home base — the one link you share across every other platform and channel, the place where every interested buyer ends up, and the place where the ticket sale actually happens.
"Your TicketSource event page is your single most important promotional asset. Every listing you add to every other platform should send people back to it. The shorter the distance between discovery and purchase, the more you convert."
In all your social media posts, emails, and listing submissions, link directly to your TicketSource event page rather than to a general website homepage. Every extra click between discovery and the buy button reduces conversion. A direct link to the event page removes that friction entirely.
Ents24
Ents24 is the UK's largest live entertainment guide, with 1.8 million monthly users browsing for concerts, theatre, comedy, festivals, and shows. Listing your event is free through Ents24 Backstage, their dedicated platform for event organisers, managers, venues, and promoters.
Once listed, Ents24 promotes your event through the site, their newsletters, tour alerts, and social media. Users can track artists and venues they follow, so your event is served directly to people who have already expressed interest in what you do.
Best for: Music, theatre, comedy, festivals — any ticketed live event across the UK.
Facebook Events
Facebook Events remains one of the most powerful free discovery tools available to organisers in both the UK and US. With 80.3% of over-35s using Facebook daily (TicketSource 2025 User Survey), a well-set-up Facebook Event is one of the most direct ways to reach a community audience in a specific location.
A Facebook Event appears in the Events tab, in local area recommendations, and in the feeds of users whose friends have shown interest. It also provides analytics showing reach and interest over time, so you can see whether organic momentum is building or whether a boosted post is worth considering.
Best for: Community events, theatre, music, arts — particularly for audiences aged 35 and over in a specific local area.

The targeting is done for you before you even submit.
Best for: Museums, galleries, heritage sites, historic houses, art exhibitions, curator talks, and cultural events in arts or heritage venues.
Heritage Open Days
Heritage Open Days is England's largest festival of history and culture, taking place each September. It attracts around 800,000 visitors across over 5,000 events — all free to attend — and is supported and promoted nationally by the National Trust. Registering your event gives you access to national media coverage, local promotion, and an audience of engaged heritage enthusiasts.
Equivalent programmes exist in Wales (Open Doors), Scotland (Doors Open Days), and Northern Ireland (European Heritage Days).
Best for: Heritage venues, historic buildings, guided tours, community history events, civic societies — any event with a heritage or history dimension, September only.

Best for: Music, theatre, arts, and cultural events in Scotland and northern England.
Evvnt
Evvnt distributes your event listing to a wide network of local and regional what's-on sites, event calendars, and search engines simultaneously. Drama Groups
Drama Groups is the UK's dedicated resource for amateur theatre groups, societies, and individuals. Beyond event listings it covers show news, reviews, audition openings, and society profiles — a genuine community hub for the amateur dramatics world. To list your production, contact Drama Groups directly with your event details for inclusion in their monthly performance listings and social media channels. With 29.5% of TicketSource events being theatre productions, this is one of the most targeted platforms available.
Best for: Amateur theatre, drama groups, community theatre productions, pantomimes, and musical theatre.
Wherecanwego
Wherecanwego is a free UK what's-on directory where users search by location, date range, and event type — useful for people planning ahead or visiting an area. Events appear immediately after submission, listings can be added several months in advance, and past events are archived, keeping your organisation visible even after the event has ended.
Best for: Community events, local theatre, arts, festivals — anything with a strong local audience where date and location search is the primary discovery route.

Songkick
Songkick is one of the primary ways music fans track artists and discover upcoming shows across the US and UK. Users register interest in specific artists and are automatically notified when that artist announces a show in their area — meaning your listing is pushed directly to the people most likely to buy a ticket, rather than waiting for them to find you.
Best for: Live music, concerts, gigs, tours, and music festivals of all scales.
Bandsintown
Bandsintown is a music-specific platform with an artist-tracking feature that now powers concert listings on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube — meaning a single listing on Bandsintown puts your event in front of fans across all of those platforms simultaneously. Its own app adds another discovery channel, and you can contact RSVPs and ticket holders directly with updates and reminders.
Best for: Live music, touring artists, gigs, music festivals — any event where the artist has an existing following to notify.
Resident Advisor
Resident Advisor is the world's leading electronic music platform, with over 1 million monthly users globally. Listing your event is free through a basic RA account, and RA's editorial team reviews submissions to ensure fit. Best for: Electronic music events, club nights, DJ events, dance music festivals — UK and US.
DoStuff Network
The DoStuff network operates city-specific what's-on guides across more than 20 major US cities, including Do312 (Chicago), DoNYC (New York), DoLA (Los Angeles), and DoATL (Atlanta). Each city site is an editorial guide to local events, with a pre-qualified audience of locals actively looking for things to do. Listings are free to submit and reach a city-specific, highly engaged audience rather than a broad national one.
Best for: Music, arts, theatre, pop-up, and community events in major US cities.
AllEvents.in
AllEvents.in is a global event discovery platform with a strong US presence, covering events across music, theatre, arts, community, workshops, food and drink, and more. Meetup
Meetup has over 60 million members globally and is built around recurring community gatherings — exactly the model used by book clubs, theatre groups, music nights, and community arts events. Organisers can create a free group and list events within it, reaching people who have specifically opted in to hear about events in their interest area and location.
Best for: Recurring community events, workshops, book clubs, arts groups, literary events, and any event with a regular programme rather than a one-off.
Nextdoor
Nextdoor is a neighbourhood social network available in both the US and UK, with over 45 million households on the platform. Its Events feature lets you post local events directly to your neighbourhood or a defined radius. Because Nextdoor's audience is hyperlocal — people who literally live near your venue — it is one of the most targeted free channels available for community events, pop-ups, and neighbourhood festivals.

How many event listing sites should I submit my event to?
Start with TicketSource and Facebook Events, then add two or three specialist platforms that match your event type. A community theatre production benefits most from Drama Groups, Wherecanwego, and Ents24. A music event benefits most from Songkick, Bandsintown, and Ents24. A neighbourhood pop-up benefits most from Nextdoor and Evvnt. Submitting to every relevant platform on this list takes a couple of hours and is worth doing for events with four or more weeks of lead time.
How early should I submit my event to listing sites?
As early as possible. Most platforms allow listings several months in advance, and the sooner your event appears the longer it has to generate organic traffic. Submit as soon as your TicketSource event page is live — ideally six to eight weeks before the event date. Heritage Open Days registrations open several months before September, so check the annual deadline on their website well in advance.
Which listing sites are best for heritage and arts events?
Museum Crush is the most targeted UK option for events at museums, galleries, and heritage venues — its weekly digest goes directly to people who have opted in to hear about exactly these events. Heritage Open Days (September only) offers national-scale promotion for events with a heritage dimension. Time Out is strong for arts events in London and major UK cities. For US arts events, AllEvents.in and the DoStuff city guides are the strongest free options.
Do any of these platforms charge for listings?
All of the platforms on this list offer free basic event listings. Some offer optional paid promotion — featured listings, newsletter placement, or sponsored positions — which can be worth considering for larger events. Choose Your Event charges for commercial events but is free for community and charity events. Always check the current terms on each platform before submitting.
