BHASVIC Storyworks 'Everyday Histories' - Ghost Tour

BHASVIC Main Hall, 205 Dyke Road, BN3 6EG
Sunday 20th September 2026
Following the award winning Community History Festival in March, BHASVIC is delighted to open its doors to the general public once more for its second event of 2026, run by the Storyworks Society.

This guided tour of College House (formerly known as Marshall House), takes a light-hearted look at stories from the old grammar school & life as a boarder with Matron. Hear about the everyday lives of the schoolboys and staff who lived and worked in this building, and the haunting tales of Matron in the attic!

The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes and will take you on a walking tour around College House with a small group of 12. Visitors need to have reasonable mobility and fitness, due to the number of stairs in College House and no ramps or lift access.

All tours begin in the Main Hall, where you can also find out more about the school's use as a military hospital in WW1, the links with Aubrey Beardsley and see the spectacular College Hall paintings by Ditchling School artist and former pupil, Louis Ginnett. Please arrive 5 minutes before the tour is due to begin. At our Community History exhibition in the Main Hall, you will also have the chance to speak to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the Royal Pavilion and Museums team to explore the importance of 'everyday history' in Brighton and Hove and the work they are doing with the College to uncover the real lives behind the names inscribed on the walls.

Please see the alternative Past & Present Tour (which we also recommend for any visitor with impaired mobility, as there are ramps at the entrance and lifts in both the main hall and Elms Building.) This can be booked via the booking link on the Heritage Open Day website. If you wish to book onto both tours, please allow at least ONE HOUR between bookings, to give enough time to finish one tour and reach the starting point of the next one.

All activities are free, but any donations to support our Heritage Restoration Fund will be gratefully received.
