Journeys in Research - Corsham Writing Retreat (open to all)
Corsham Court, Wiltshire, Corsham, SN13 0BZ
Thursday 29th October 2026
We invite you to sign up to The Writers' Retreat, an opportunity to devote a whole day to writing in a quiet, structured and supportive atmosphere.
The retreat will be facilitated by Alison Woodhouse, 3rd Year PhD Candidate in Creative Writing. She has taught writing, run workshops and mentored writers for many years, at City Lit, WEA, Middle Way Mentoring, Flash Fiction Festival and The Crow Collective to name a few places.
These writing days can be a valuable way to get writing and/or to break the isolation of writing alone. They are not just for creative practitioners. Anybody engaged with writing (perhaps a chapter for a book, a funding proposal, an outline, a peer review) will find these days enormously productive.
You will need to arrive 'ready to write' (i.e. with something in mind) and may bring any materials (books, data etc) with you of course. If you write on your laptop, remember to bring chargers!
There will be some short discussions on good writing practice and how to approach your writing as a professional task, but the vast majority of the day will be devoted to writing without distraction. To this end, you will be encouraged to turn off distractions (e-mail, social media, news etc) during the writing periods. You may wish to put on an out of office to help support this time away. Attendees will receive more details a few days prior to the Writing Retreat.
Tea and coffee will be provided but please bring your own lunch and snacks.
If you have any queries, please contact the Research Culture and Environment Officer: Julianne Holcombe at [email protected]
*this event is available to BSU staff and students only*
