Finding your Academic Voice (PGR, Staff)

Online
Wednesday 28th October 2026 10:00AM
How can I find my academic voice?' is a question many researchers ask. Some also wonder how it's possible to have a voice if you can't use 'I' to signal your authorial presence. This workshop explores the concept of 'voice' in academic writing and how confidence and courage are important to self-expression. Through activities and examples, we’ll identify the writerly techniques that help to create a ‘voice’ and consider the relationship between the writer’s voice and the reader’s experience. Paraphrasing can be approached as a matter of voice – we’ll go back to basics, re-thinking what paraphrasing is, and how best to use it.
