The General (1926)

Belmont House Hotel, Banbridge, BT32 3LH
Thursday 1st October 2026 7:30PM
Join us for a very special screening of Buster Keaton’s classic silent comedy The General (1926), presented as part of our Silent Movie Day!
Widely regarded as one of the greatest silent films ever made, The General sees Buster Keaton star as a locomotive engineer caught up in an extraordinary adventure during the American Civil War. Packed with spectacular stunts, ingenious visual comedy and Keaton’s trademark deadpan humour, it’s a true classic of cinema that remains every bit as entertaining today.
🎶 And to make the evening truly special, we’re delighted to welcome back Bridin Wells and Manus O’Boyle, who will provide a spectacular live musical score accompaniment to the film — recreating the magic of the silent cinema experience with live music performed alongside the movie.
A timeless comedy. A spectacular live score. A very special night at the cinema.
Come and experience The General as audiences would have done in the golden age of silent cinema — with the added magic of a live performance from two brilliant local musicians.
