Folklore Creature Hunt
Buncrana Anglers Association Angling Centre, Ireland, F93 WP78
Sunday 4 May 2025
Marianna Bruno is visiting us from Italy for the presentation of her work at Swan Park. Walking by the Ancestors is a series of illustrations born from the suggestions of Irish cultural heritage and Inishowen territory, particularly the Harry Percival Swan Collection. Two objects of the collection where of special significance and contributed to give the inspiration for the series: the Liathróid Cailligh (the “Witch ball”) and the Dutchman Log Box, currently on display at the National Museum in Dublin.
Suitable for children aged 5-10years
During this special workshop Marianna will show us her beautiful sketchbooks. She will tell the children some stories about witches, fairies and other creatures, and share something from the folklore of her birthplace. We will then imagine where these creatures hide, where they live, how they disguise themselves from humans, and so on (for example: a fairy could have the shape of a flower, or a leaf, so that no one can see her) and make drawings of what we find in our imagination.
