The Full Monty by Simon Beaufoy
Farndon Memorial Hall, Newark on Trent, NG24 3SZ
Wednesday 28th October 2026 7:30PM
Sheffield is a city on the move, but when Gaz, Dave, Gerald and Lomper, four steelworkers, are made redundant to pave the way for 'progress', their world suddenly becomes very static. Seeing the same faces in the dole queue, days merge together and the prospect of real employment looks like an out of reach pipe-dream.
Into this mix come two other dubiously employed men, retired Horse and self employed Guy, and a seductively genius way to earn a few quid!
BAFTA award winning film 'The Full Monty' was penned by the screenwriter, Simon Beaufoy, and his film-turned-play features scenes and dialogue lifted straight from the celluloid, so expect hot stuff in the job centre, the landing of the lunchbox (if you know, you know), lots of eye rolling from the boy, a funky chicken, and that poignant clingfilm scene.
The setting is Marsh Lane Working Men's Club, the year is 1990, bingo, meat raffles, dodgy pub singers and DJs are alive and well in this tiny corner of Sheffield.
This is the real deal. This is The Full Monty!
ALERTS:
NUDITY - almost goes without saying - features some male nudity.
SUBJECTS - despite being a comedy, the play touches on serious subjects including unemployment, father's rights, depression, suicide, male impotence, homosexuality, body image, and working class culture.
SWEARING - there is a small amount of swearing as befits the characters and circumstances. It's not gratuitous and is in context.
COMPANION TICKETS:
Argent Theatre is committed to accessible theatre and offer free companion tickets as needed.
Ticketsource has just introduced their automatic 'essential companion' system to enable seamless booking of tickets for people with an Access Card.
