One of the most unusual and extraordinary films of recent times Koyaanisqatsi is a documentary like no other you will have seen. using original music by Philip Glass the director Godfrey Reggio constructs an hypnotic and poetic montage of moving images - landscapes, cityscapes, people at work and in leisure - the cumulative effect is moving, uplifting, at times shocking but throughout quite magical.
Reggio had been developing and shooting the film since the mid 1970s but it was only through the intercession of Francis Ford Coppola that it was completed and released in 1982. After festival success the film was distributed by Island Records chief Chris Blackwell. It became a huge box office success - the second biggest gross of any documentary in the 1980s. After that initial release the film was enmired in copyright issues for decades but surfaced again in 2012. It is a pioneering work whose influence is seen in many areas from feature films to commercials and pop videos. Don't miss this opportunity to see a truly original work on the big screen.
